"Do Something More"
A
discussion group with a potentially international reach
Main Topics:
Retirement,
charitable, and investing activities – especially aimed at interests of older
gentlemen.

Sample activities
(Done by individuals
or by the group):
Education –
worldwide -- job skills (possibly extend Perpetual Education Fund or liberal
education ideas).
Missionary
work -- (new methods need to be explored using new technologies).
Crisis
hotline – counseling: drugs, suicide, pregnancy, etc.
Adoptions
-- (I believe the LDS Church has stopped working in this area).
Migration
-- (Assist in Europe and South America. Could be an aspect of religious gathering.).
General
friendship, advice, and counsel -- grandparent-style.
Other
Notes
Participants
are encouraged to bring an idea to share and discuss, something that they might
like to do themselves or might wish to join with others in doing. There are
millions of good things that could and should be done in the world. Hopefully,
the individuals in this group can do a few of them. The world keeps trying to
pull itself apart and someone needs to keep trying to put it back together.
●We should
consider using existing communications and social media technology in new ways
- to do more good and less bad.
●Church
members might get special responsibilities and special privileges, but others
may be involved.
●No money collected,
at least to start with. Eventually group members may have activities of common
interest, such as cloud-based telephone management and fund accounting systems.
Two big
sample project ideas:
●Almost
every transaction and interaction of life could be funneled through the new concept
"Angel" system (to be designed) to offer help or receive help on an
organized or individual charitable basis.
●People,
whether young or old, might be encouraged to register with the new-concept
"Life" system (to be designed) – much like registering with government
social insurance systems, but all done privately.

Some
potential charitable project ideas, large and small
Use $3 billion to create 30 blockbuster
Christian-friendly movies – give Hollywood some serious competition in influencing
the culture.
Use up to $3 billion to create competing
Facebook, Twitter, and perhaps Google Internet applications to help resolve the
current lack of proper social controls and parameters for social media.
Move 30,000 Honduras church members to a
safe place. That safe place might be Spain or Germany or the United States, for
example.
Move 4 million Middle Eastern/Syrian Christians
from Lebanon and Jordan to some safe place, in Europe or in the United States,
for example
Find a way to provide foster homes for
some of the children on the southern US border who came from Central America.
Or return them to their families, and then move the entire family to some place
safer.
The church ended its adoption program.
Maybe someone should start up an alternative.
Use one year's church genealogy
resources to complete all the genealogy for the United States going back 12-15
generations by using new technology. That would free up about $5-10 billion
over a 10-year period for other projects
Improve high school graduation rates in
Utah and other states
End the constant debates in Utah and
other places about medical services for the poor and other support systems for
the poor. Create an independent system on the proper scale to deal with these
questions, ending the waste, fraud, and abuse of government systems, and
returning charity to its proper Christian base.
Create smaller neighborhood and city-level
charitable projects.
